吴伯超在抗战时期的桂林这段日子,是他创作的黄金时代。混声四部合唱《中国人》是流传最广的作品。《祭阵亡将士诔乐》为一首精心制作的赋格曲,是抗日歌咏运动中独具一格的重要音乐文献。《冲锋歌》是活报式的合唱曲,必须有高涨的爱国激情才能唱出气势。女声四部合唱与钢琴四重奏曲《暮色》,笔调细赋,意趣幽深,是他的力作之一。二胡曲《秋感》、小歌《闲中好》都属闲适恬淡的抒情作品。他也写过一些应景之作,应属他作品中的末流。
