詹姆斯·芬尼莫尔·库珀(James Fenimore Cooper)所写的著名的长篇小说《最后的莫西干人》(TheLast of the Mohicans)是美国本土文学中的边疆冒险小说开始之作。本文将从以下几个方面来解读昂卡斯(Uncas)的悲剧:昂卡斯(Uncas)的真正身份;他对自然的崇拜;他注定失败的爱情以及不可避免的死亡;以及他对正义、自由、文明追求的失败。因为欧洲文明的进程击碎了印第安文明之根。昂卡斯(Uncas)的悲剧是对美国土著居民逐渐灭绝的一种哀痛。《最后的莫西干人》对当今的世界和平也有可借鉴的部分。
The famous novel “The Last of the Mohicans” written by James Fenimore Cooper is the beginning of a border adventure story in American native literature. This article will examine Uncas’ tragedies from the following aspects: the true identity of Uncas; his admiration of nature; his destined love of failure and the inevitable death; and his determination of justice, Freedom, the pursuit of civilization failed. Because the process of European civilization crushed the roots of Indian civilization. The tragedy of Uncas is a grief over the gradual extinction of Native Americans. The “Last Mossi” also has some lessons for peace in today’s world.
