Objective To investigate the value of HbA1c in the blood glucose monitoring of diabetic patients by studying the results of HbA1c in the past five years. Methods 8 099 specimens of HbA1c and fasting blood glucose (GLU) values from 2010 to 2015 were randomly divided into diabetic group and non-diabetic group for statistical analysis. Results In the positive detection of diabetes, the sensitivity of GLU assay was 75.6% and the specificity was 51.7%, while the sensitivity and specificity of HbA1c assay were 89.2% and 81.9% respectively. There was significant difference between the two groups P <0.05). Conclusions It is suggested that blood glucose should be detected in clinical diagnosis of diabetes mellitus while HbA1c level in patients should be measured. The diagnosis results can be improved by analyzing the test results to avoid misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis.
