Professor Gary M. Hieftje is the current director of analysis of the American Chemical Society and nowadays the middle-aged atomic spectroscopic chemist in the United States and the world. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1969 and immediately worked as an assistant prof. At Indiana University in the United States. He was promoted to associate prof in September 1973 and was promoted in June 1977 Professor (full prof.). In recent years, Professor Hieftje has won numerous scientific awards, including the 1985 Chemical Instrumentation Award from the American Chemical Society and 1986 in recognition of his work on flame and plasma chemistry and physics The Pittsburgh Analytical Chemistry Award from the Pittsburgh Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy Society. Professor Hieftjs was the one with the most articles published in the Pittsburgh Symposium in recent two years (12 in 1985 and 17 in 1986). Currently, his work interests focus on the basic mechanisms of atomic emission, absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy and the improvement of atomic spectroscopy methods. He has also been involved in the computer control of chemical instrumentation and experiments, the analytical time-resolved luminescence process, the application of information theory in analytical chemistry, the analysis of near infrared reflectance and the application of stochastic processes in the extraction of basic and dynamic chemical information A lot of work has been done. He is Analyhca Chimtea Acta. Editorial Member of Spectrochimica Acta, Part B and many other international professional journals. He is also a member of Editorial Board of Analytical Atomic Spectroscopy (JAAS) this year and a member of the editorial board of the column entitled “Latest News of Atomic Spectroscopy.” This year he is also a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry Invitation to travel to the UK as Theoplilus Rewood Lecture This is a record of conversations with Professor Homaft during a spring visit to the UK in 1985, with Professor JM Ottaway, JAAS’s representative, Relevant, a wide range of issues published his own views. After reading quite a sense. Now translated it for “spectroscopy and spectral analysis,” the majority of readers reference.
