自从1995年中国进入国际互联网以来,短短的三年时间上网人数已达到120万人,截止今年7月份CN下的一级域名已有9415个,估计到98年底网络用户将突破150万,在未来3年内会超过500万用户,市场潜力巨大。信息搜索引擎,也就是上网信息的指南,被人们称为“网络之门”,在当今因特网上类似YAHOO!那样,谁控制了上网信息检索就意味着掌握了未来信息疆界的制高点。 98年盛夏以来,围绕着打开“中国网络”之门,一场激烈的争夺战悄然打响。中文YAHOO!已经出生,国际著名的搜索网站AltaVista宣布将支持简/繁两体中文,“美国在线”登陆香港将大举进军中文信息服务市场。在这场大战搜索引擎之战中国内各服务商立足本土文化和信息资源,拿出看家本事,积极抗争,充分利用本土信息资源,提供符合中国人接受习惯的检索方式与目录服务。如果说在计算机硬件和网络通讯技术上我们必然要跟在别人身后亦步亦趋,那么在信息服务方面我们完全可能开辟出一条新路。
