The recent British “World Football” magazine conducted a poll, named the world’s best player in 1989, the best team and the best coach. In this annual selection of activities, the Italian AC Milan center Gullit 24% of the votes were fans nominated for the 1989 World Player of the Year. Although the Dutch superstar played less often last year, he still has more votes than his fellow Dutchman Basten. Gullit was the first player to win this award.
