媒介素养似乎是一个比较新的概念,迄今为止,媒介素养仍没有形成一个公认的概念,但在学界诸多的定义中,1992年美国媒体素养研究中心对媒介素养所下的定义得到了比较多的认同。该中心指出,媒介素养是指在人们面对不同媒体中各种信息时所表现出的对信息的选择能力、质疑能力、理解能力、评估能力、创造和生产能力以及思辨的反应能力。现代信息技术的发展不断带动传统媒体发生变化,在新媒体环境下,当传播形式发生改变,原有的媒介素养已经不再适应这一变化,并且新媒体也在对原有的媒体素养不断进行着冲击,新媒体的传播特征不断在对现有媒介素养的体系和内容进行着消解与挑战,对于新的媒介生态环境系统,它对于尚未完全成熟的媒介素养体系来说是一把双刃剑,既是挑战也是机遇。以新媒体的传播形式和特征为依据,研究媒介素养在新形势下的必要转向,对媒体产业的进一步发展将具有十分重要的现实意义。
