三十年前,上海戏曲学校领导要我改学小生。因为昆曲没有女小生的先例,我顾虑重重,只怕没有前途。当年俞振飞校长出访欧洲演出前,特地写了一封长信给我,指出我有条件唱小生,并说:“我一定对你负责到底,希望你勇往直前!”老师持如此慎重的态度,给我安排了今后的道路,就此我的一生与昆曲小生结下了不解之缘。从小人们说我是个“幸运儿”,因为昆曲界三大小生:俞振飞、沈传芷、周传瑛都是我的老师,又因为我起步晚,老师更是倍加爱护。数十年的师生之情,使我和老师们相濡相煦,冷暖互知。记得1958年,俞振飞老师出国演出回来,深情地对我们说:“我没有子女,戏曲学校的学生就是我的孩子,出去很久了,我想家了,想我的孩子们了!”

I remember in 1958, Yu Zhenfei returned home to perform abroad, affectionately told us: "I have no children, opera school students are my children, go out for a long time, I miss home, I miss my children!
