I. Introduction This paper discusses the design and improvement of a stepless regulation system for reciprocating compressor displacement. Unlike a staged regulation system that varies the amount of exhaust by a constant difference, the amount of regulation in this system is unrestricted and therefore infinitely variable, and the amount of exhaust can be controlled to exactly match the amount of gas required. This stepless system hydraulically keeps the suction valve open during a partial compression stroke so that some of the gas that has been drawn into the cylinder is drained back into the suction tube. When relieving the hydraulic pressure starts to be compressed, the displacement can be arbitrarily adjusted from 0 to 10%. The hydraulic distributor is controlled by the crankshaft. After the suction valve opens normally, it pressurizes the suction valve unloader. Another set of devices checks and indicates exhaust pressure or displacement and deactivates or prematurely relieves the hydraulic pressure acting on the suction valve unloader by a positioner to fully adjust the displacement of the compressor.
