N-3 fatty acids began to be used clinically since the groundbreaking study of Eskimos in Greenland by Dyerberg in the 1970s. Although dietary n-3 fatty acids have been found to have a wide range of biological and physiological activities in the body over the past decade, the inclusion of these fatty acids as essential nutrients in the diet has only been in recent years.
