The relationship between newspapers and Chinese characters The State Council announced the simplified Chinese characters program, which was implemented in four batches before and after. A total of 517 simplified characters and 54 simplified radicals were introduced. Judging from the newspapers in Beijing, simplified characters have been implemented and remarkable achievements have been made. Simplified and traditional characters are easier to learn and easier to write than traditional ones, making them popular among the general public, especially workers, peasants and children.
