This article reports the gene structure of four HCV subtypes and describes the subtypes in terms of their nucleic acid sequence homology. 1. Hepatitis C virus RNA is a single-stranded positive-stranded RNA genomic virus, about 10kb in length. Gene RNA has a long ORF and 3 ’coding region. The former encodes a large protein-polyprotein precursor (from the 5 ’end to the 5’ non-coding region) consisting of 3000 amino acid residues.
