国外的老式汽车有两个英文名称:veteran car和vintage car。据Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English的解释,前者用于1916年以前制造的汽车,后者用于1916～1930年间生产的汽车。而Oxford Il-lustrated Dictionary(1975,第二版)认为,veteran(motor)car系“早期的、尤指1904年或其以前制造的汽车”,而vintage car是“1918年11月11日至1930年12月生产的汽车”。
Vintage cars abroad have two English names: veteran car and vintage car. According to the interpretation of the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, the former is used for cars manufactured before 1916, and the latter for cars produced between 1916 and 1930. According to the Oxford Il-lustrated Dictionary (1975, second edition), the veteran (motor)car is an “early, especially 1904, or a previously made car,” while a vintage car is “11 November to 1930, 1918.” The car produced in December."
