在昆虫病毒制剂内添加糖类和其它昆虫喜食的养料,棉花和其他作物的害虫取食这种“生物杀虫剂”(biological insecticide)后罹病而致死。昆虫病毒是其寄主的致死因素。从罹病的苜蓿环纹夜蛾上分离出的一种核多角体病毒(NPV),对分布广泛的棉花害虫都能致病而引起死亡,包括红铃虫、甘蓝银纹夜蛾,烟草夜蛾幼虫、甜菜夜蛾幼虫、苜蓿环纹夜蛾、棉叶潜蛾和棉黑纹灯蛾。但这种病毒制剂在棉花上使用还尚未登记注册。因而 NPV 的商品制剂仍局限在小范围内使用——烟草夜蛾幼虫、棉铃虫——且已注册。
Pests that feed on sugarcane and other nourishment that feed on insects, cotton and other crops die in the entomopathogenic virus after feeding on this “biological insecticide.” Insect virus is the lethal factor of its host. A nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) isolated from the diseased alfalfa (Helicoverpa armigera) causes disease in a wide range of cotton insect pests, including Helicoverpa armigera, Spodoptera litura, Larvae, beet armyworm larvae, alfalfa ringworm, cotton leaf moth and cotton moth. However, the use of this virus preparation on cotton has not yet been registered. The commercial formulation of NPV is therefore still limited to small-scale use - tobacco budworm larvae, cotton bollworm - and are registered.
