在英语中,我们常看到很多带有“word”的英语习语及谚语,其意思丰富而又有趣。现将“word”的搭配及在习语及谚语中的用法分述如下:1.与动词搭配构成的习语keep one’s word:守信用,遵守诺言。例如:She kept her wordin coming to see me.她遵守她的诺言来看我。eat one’s words(或 take back one’s word,swallow one’sword);(被迫)收回前言,承认说错。例如:John had called Henry acoward,but the boys made him eat his words after Henry bravely foughta big bully.约翰叫亨利是胆小鬼,但当亨利勇敢地打败了一个粗大的暴汉时,约翰便收回前言。
