Although there is no major breakthrough in the study of syphilis, the research on morphology and immunology of syphilis can reveal its pathogenesis and injury mechanism to a certain extent, laying a theoretical foundation for the prevention and treatment of syphilis. Now the research progress in this area for the following overview. 1 Syphilis etiology Syphilis is caused by the infection of treponema pallidum (TP). It is a group of more complicated spirochetes. Under scanning electron microscopy, it is an elongated spiral pathogenic microorganism with a length of 0.6-1.5 μm and a width of 0.1-0.25 μm.
