科技论文的插图应具有自明性,即仅看图题、图注和图上的各项内容,勿需再看正文的有关文字叙述,就能基本上了解图意。因此,插图的各项构成要素,要完整无缺。例如,对于最常用的坐标图来说,应有完整、简明的图题,纵、横标目,标值和计量单位(或算符),以及必要的图注等。在插图自明性方面常见的问题是:a.图题欠完整、明确;b.漏写标目或计量单位(或算符);c.图中的曲线代号或缩写符号,缺必要的图注;d.计量单位书写错误或不规范等。由于存在这些问题,读者在看插图时,为弄懂图意,不得不再查阅正文,有时甚至查阅正文,也无法弄懂确切的图意。因此,作者在设计和绘制论文插图时,应注意插图的自明性。

Therefore, the author should pay attention to the self-evidentness of illustrations when designing and drawing the essay illustrations.
