1 IntroductionrnInflammation is one of the main mechanisms in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, and the interest to the evaluation of inflammatory biomarkers in coronary artery disease (CAD) has been increasing over the last decade.[1,2]Destabilization of chronic artery plaques, which leads to acute coronary syndromes, has been associated with inflammatory status.[1,3]rnC-reactive protein (CRP) is a plasma protein of the pentraxins family.CRP is widely used as a general inflammatory marker since it is an acute phase protein synthesized by hepatocytes in response to proinflammatory cytokines,particularly interleukin-6.
