在当代复杂的文化语境当中,如何欣赏和理解那些前现代艺术作品,如何将其融入观者今天的文化经验?以何种或哪几种理论框架来解读那些前现代艺术作品?是重点着力于还原当时艺术家的创作观念和意图,及其同时代评论家们的点评和解释,还是以我们当下的观念系统为出发点,超越历史的平面来重新审视和评论,这是非常需要发挥艺术评论写作者的创造性的。本期刊发旅居加拿大的学者段炼的文章,对最近在蒙特利尔展出拉斐尔前派重要艺术家瓦特豪斯的一批重要作品,以多种批评理论和方法进行了重新读解,不仅大大加深了我们对这些可谓既熟悉又陌生的拉斐尔前派艺术作品的理解,同时该文也可谓灵活运用多种现代批评理论工具剖析前现代美术作品的精彩范例。
