毛白杨,生长快、材质好、经济价值高,是主要速生用材树种之一。适于平原、四旁、山峪生长。早在十六世纪明朝王圻撰《三才图会》以至东周春秋时庄周撰《庄子》一书中都有所记述。说明自古已为我国北方群众喜欢种植,积累了丰富的栽培经验。我们自一九五九年开始进行扦插育苗的探讨,着重试验解决生根成活的有关问题。一九七四年——一九七九年,每年都有10一40亩大面积扦插育苗,累计为150.2亩,成活率由70.2％上升并稳定在80％以上,共产苗40多万株。 Populus tomentosa, grow fast, good material, high economic value, is one of the main fast-growing timber species.
