I. INTRODUCTION Broadband telecom transmission requires higher and higher carrier frequencies. All countries have successively built millimeter-wave circular waveguide test sections. However, this circular waveguide is a “hardware” structure, which is difficult to install and lay so far has not yet been promoted. Optical fiber is the use of optical frequency of the new circular waveguide, it is soft and lightweight, many advantages. In order to understand the transmission characteristics of optical fiber, this paper analyzes the metal circular waveguide and optical fiber waveguide by the same analysis method. It can be seen that in addition to the apparent advantages of optical fiber waveguide, its transmission characteristics are superior to that of metal circular waveguide.
