被誉为“中国引入高科技产业风险基金的第一人”、“中国信息的使者”的熊晓鸽先生,出生于湖南湘潭市,做过4年电工;1981年毕业于湖南大学外语系;1984年,在机电部任翻译和英语教师的他以全国统考总分第三名的成绩录取为中国社科院研究生院新闻国际英语写作专业研究生;1986年秋天,他在新华社国际部工作时,获得美国波士顿大学全额奖学金赴美留学。1987年底,获得大众传播学硕士学位后,进入费莱彻法律与外交学院攻读国际经济与商理博士学位。攻读博士学位期间,他在全球最大的出版机构卡纳斯公司工作,担任了《电子导报》亚洲版的主任编辑。1991年秋,荣获美国最具影响力的美华协会“’99最佳新闻报道奖”和“留美最杰出青年”称号。1993年,他代表IDG集团投资2000万美元与上海科委合作,成立中国第一家合资技术风险公司,熊哓鸽亲自担任总经理;同年,与广东银行合作,成立另一家技术合资公司。1998年,代表IDG集团策划与国家科技部建立科技风险投资基金,在今后七年内向中国的技术产业提供十亿美元的创业基金。

In the fall of 1991, he was awarded the ’’99 Best News Report Award “and” Most Outstanding Youth in the United States "by the U.S.-China Association, the most influential U.S.-China Association. In 1993, on behalf of IDG Group, he invested 20 million U.S. dollars in cooperation with Shanghai Science and Technology Commission to establish China’s first joint venture technology risk company and Xiong Pigeon personally acted as the general manager. In the same year, he worked with Guangdong Bank to set up another technology joint venture company. In 1998, on behalf of IDG Group, he planned to establish a science and technology venture capital fund with the Ministry of Science and Technology to provide a billion U.S. dollars of venture capital funds to China’s technology industry in the next seven years.
