Since the energy crisis, fuel costs have risen sharply. Automobile fuel consumption has become the primary issue facing the automotive industry and has seriously affected the development of the automobile industry. Automobiles are the major consumers of refined oil products. In 1977, the percentage of petroleum consumed by automobiles in major industrial countries in the world accounted for 52.8% of the total oil consumption in the United States, 27.6% in the United Kingdom, 25.4% in France, 25.3% in West Germany and 18.1% in Japan. Therefore, various countries have enacted laws and regulations that limit the fuel consumption of automobiles, studied and raised the fuel economy of automobiles, and set the maximum speed for vehicles to travel. Measures taken by all parties to save fuel will be of great significance to the national economy.
