This article details the design and recommended construction methods for the Sunshine skyway over the Tampa Bay in Florida. The program uses a newer type of bonding beam. The main beam consists of welded steel beam and prefabricated concrete bridge deck. Connect the diamond-shaped concrete pylons with box sections to the main girder with parallel cables or strand cords. Cables converge from the outermost edge of the main beam to the top of the pylon, which can greatly enhance the aerodynamic stability of the main beam and thus form a rigid space truss. Although this solution costs about 4% more than concrete solutions, it is still recognized. Later bidding competition proved that the combination of cable-stayed bridges was much more economical than that of concrete or steel cable-stayed bridges. In the development of cable-stayed bridges, the design of combined beams, concrete towers and parallel wire ropes or steel cords will occupy an important position.
