山东省京剧团青年演员宋玉庆,在革命现代戏《奇袭白虎团》中,成功地塑造了志愿军侦察排长严伟才的英雄形象。一九六四年京剧现代戏观摩演出大会期间,他的表演受到文艺界和广大工农兵观众的热烈赞赏。大家都说他演兵象兵,表现出无产阶级革命战士的思想感情。宋玉庆所以能得到这样的成绩,不是偶然的。这是他在党的教育、关怀下,沿着革命化道路不断前进的结果。“要想演好革命戏,必须先做革命人”的真理,在宋玉庆身上得到了证实。
