在风或地震等水平荷载的作用下,高层建筑会产生复杂的变形和运动。因此,提供足够的侧向刚度和强度来控制水平荷栽作用下产生的侧移是高层结构设计的关键。结构设计的目标一直未变,即提高结构效能。按照前面论述,这种对效能的追求符合了可持续性设计原则,对材料和能源的最佳利用。就高层建筑而言,提高结构效能主要有两种措施:一是选择可提高结构效能的建筑体型;二是选择高效率的结构体系;实际上这两种措施也就构成了高层建筑结构构思的理论基础。
