About 35 miles from Manhattan, New York, in a secluded small harbor on the northern shore of Long Island, there is a romantic village with a Victorian-style architecture. In this landscaped environment, researchers are conducting mysterious studies such as the causes of cancer and human brain dynamics. This is the American Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. It has 460 staff, including 123 scientists, with an annual budget of 27 million U.S. dollars. The laboratory is smaller than some research institutes. However, it has been at the leading edge in terms of biology research. Nobel laureate James Watson, who has been the lab director since 1968. He talked about the annual participation of scientists, meetings and training programs, there are 5400 people. So he pointed out: “We are not as small as we think.”
