The Marine Corps Aviation Museum at Quantkico, Virginia, originally had only two World War I galleries and two World War II galleries and now has an additional Korean War Museum. There were two pioneering achievements in the history of aviation in the Korean War. First, hostile sides first used jet aircraft to fight. Second, large numbers of helicopters entered the battlefield and took on important tasks. The 1953 film “The Bridges of Tokori” is based on the Korean War as the background to describe the story of the U.S. carrier-borne jet fighter F9F. The story is also filled with helicopters penetrating the “enemy” after rescue stranded pilots . Therefore, the museum’s exhibition focuses on F9F, MiG-15 and HRS (H-19) helicopters. The information on North Korea’s air combat also focuses on F9F’s operational history.
