夏布原料为苎麻,是用传统手工加工而成的苎麻布。《诗经》:“东门之地,可以沤苎。”可见夏布具有悠久的制作历史。目前出土的最早的夏布文物是江西贵溪龙虎山崖墓中发掘的苎麻印花布,属春秋晚期至战国早期的制品。当今夏布已被列为中国非物质文化遗产、主要产地在重庆荣昌、四川隆昌和江西分宜。夏布结实坚韧,具有天然的耐水性、抗菌性和固色性能,可以被用作当代重彩画的承载物。夏布也易于长时间保存,有利于重彩画作品的传世。每一匹夏布的纹理绝不重复、因此也确保了原创作品的唯一性和不可仿制性。

Today’s summer cloth has been classified as China’s intangible cultural heritage, the main origin in Chongqing Rongchang, Sichuan Longchang and Jiangxi points should. The delicate and tough summer straw, with natural water resistance, antibacterial and fixing properties, can be used as a contemporary heavy color painting bearing. Summer cloth is also easy to save for a long time, is conducive to the transfer of heavy color paintings. The texture of each piece of cloth is never repeated, thus ensuring the uniqueness and non-imitation of the original work.
