Most machined parts with holes have concentricity requirements for inside and outside diameters. It is very difficult to obtain accurate readings on the dial for long workpieces with free tolerances on the inside diameter. In order to overcome the excessive pointer change, a special plunger is designed which presses the workpiece bore surface at a constant pressure as the workpiece rotates. Two spring-loaded balls provide pressure against the workpiece bore surface. The above structure allows for adjustments and prevents changes in the scale reading.
