一提起《阳春白雪》,人们就不免会想起战国时期楚国文人宋玉的《对楚王问》中的一段话:“客有歌于郢中者,其始曰《下里巴人》,国中属而和者数千人;其为《阳春薤露》,国中属而和者数百人;其为《阳春白雪》,国中属而和者不过数十人,……”文中所说的那位唱歌者唱的《阳春白雪》,只有数十人能跟着唱,真可谓是“其曲弥高,其和弥寡”了。无怪乎后人在形容一些高深精雅的文艺作品时,多用《阳春白雪》而称之,而把那些通俗易懂的作品则称之为《下里巴人》了。宋玉所说的《阳春白雪》是当时楚国的一首歌曲。恐怕是曲高和寡难以学唱的原因吧,早已失传,其曲调、歌词是什么样子也无资料可考了。然而值得欣慰的是,另有一首脍炙人口的古曲《阳春白雪》至今还在广泛流传,音乐会上、收音机中经常能听到它那欢快活泼的旋律。这就是著名的琵琶传统独奏曲《阳春白雪》。
