This article reports the development of a new high-speed scanning acoustic imaging system that is particularly suitable for medical diagnostics, non-destructive testing and acoustic microscopy. Its key element is a photoconductor - piezoelectric transducer composed of a parametric transducer, its nonlinear performance is the basis of optical readout method. Preliminary measurements showed that at 2.7 MHz, its sensitivity was better than 0.2 microwatts / cm2 and its resolution was close to the expected limit of 0.7 mm.
