学科独立性问题是情报学发展史上一个重要的“公案”。在当前学科边界松动、学科对话频繁的特殊学术生态中,有必要对情报学的学科独立性问题进行更为清晰的辨识:“硬学科”意义上的情报学已经具有独立性,而“软学科”意义上的情报学的独立日显迫切;研究对象与研究方法不足以构成学科独立性的内在依据,但情报学者把握其研究对象的方式、选择和使用研究方法的水平,则是情报学学科独立性的重要表征;其他学科的理论或知识进入情报学,并不必然导致情报学独立性的丧失,但情报学者进行学科对话的心态与姿态,以及选择与使用其他学科理论或知识的方式却深刻影响着情报学的学科独立性。
