为了贴合故事原型，片中人物均带有北英格兰口音。同学们在听的时候可对比其与正统英式英语的差别。
BBC英剧《梦想动物园》（Our Zoo）根据真实故事改编，真实发生地是彻斯特动物园（Chester Zoo）——20世纪30年代莫特席德一家建造了这座如今被公认为英国最好的野生动物园。彻斯特动物园是跻身世界前十的动物园，一万一千多只动物以这片111英亩的土地为家。在彻斯特动物园，因为没有严格的“囚禁动物措施”，成员们离家出走是常态。鹈鹕饿了会自己进厨房提醒家人喂食，黑熊们一度天天要出门溜达，再被家人一次次“劝”回家。莫特席德一家用理想和热情行事，竟然就能一次次打败拦路怪兽——村民的反对、“有关部门”的阻挠、战争、经济危机，造就了这个奇迹。
《梦想动物园》虽然有艺术的加工，但是并未改变基本脉络和事实。于是，你在看剧的时候丝毫不担心莫特席德一家会被各种现实的困境打败，或者一不留神被黑熊扇死、被毒蛇咬死。因为我们知道，这座动物园最终会成功建成、走向辉煌。结局已定，意味着讲故事的难度提高了很多。然而彻斯特动物的故事本身就已经足够精彩，再加上费心找来的珍稀动物和各种暖心小细节，成就了这个温暖治愈的成人童话。

Drift off表示“慢吞吞（或不经意）地走开，慢慢地睡着”。例如：

Barlow： Monkey. Someone ships it all the way from Colombia and can’t even be bothered to come and pick it up. There were two of them. Other one died. Took us a while to work out what to feed them. Trouble is we can’t keep them forever.
George： What’s that stuff there？
Barlow： Chloroform. Trust me， it’s the best way. He’ll just drift off. （readies to kill the monkey）
George： All right. All right！
Barlow： All right what？
George： How much do you want？
Barlow： For the parrot or the monkey？
George： Both.

乔治·莫特席德是一名一战退伍老兵，战后和妻子在父母的杂货店工作，战争留给他的创伤从未平复。有一天，他去码头进货，意外发现被遗留在那里前途未卜的珍稀动物。

June： Camels are 40 million years old. Not this actual one， of course.
Lizzie： You said you were going to get rid of[摆脱] them！ George： Let’s go inside， love.
Lizzie： Why？ You’ve invited everyone into our back yard， you made this public. Why not discuss it in front of all and sundry？ I’ve tried to be understanding， to be patient. Give you a chance to get…
George： All right.
Lizzie： …What you’re feeling out of your system. But this can’t go on.
George： Butterfield offered to take him but I couldn’t do it. You should see the state of the animals he keeps at that circus， it’s j…No， it’s criminal[犯罪的]. I can’t do it. I’ll find someone else to take them.
Lizzie： Who？
George： Someone. I mean， look at him， he’s beautiful.
Neighbour： Lethal[致命的]！ He scratched[抓] my son.
June： Only cause he stuck[伸出] his hand in his cage. He was standing up for himself.
Lizzie： June， that’s enough！
George： Someone will take him. And the bird.
Lizzie： And the camel？ I can’t believe I’m saying this. It’s a camel， who wants him？
George： Well， he’s not feeling very well， so we’ll nurse[照料] him back to health first.
Lizzie： You’re scaring me. What you’re doing， it’s not normal.
George： Well， maybe it is， for me.

看着这些可怜的动物，乔治心里萌生了建立一座没有笼子的动物园的念头。他偷偷打听适合开办动物园的庄园，独自计划着这一切。而后，他将家人带到他看好的奥克菲尔德庄园，描绘了他的梦想。
Lucy： What are we doing here？
Lizzie： Don’t touch anything， June！
George： （draw a picture） This is us. This house， I mean. Now I’m thinking this shed[棚] here， we pull that down and we rebuild， maybe an aviary[大型鸟舍]. Right？ Stables[马厩] here and the greenhouse out the back. Now that is huge. And there’s ten acres of land all ready to be used as a paddock[小牧场]. It’s perfect for animals.
June： What sort of animals？
George： Horses. Peacocks. Elephants.
Lucy： Elephants？ You’re off your rocker[精神错乱].
Albert： George， what’s going on？
George： I want to build a zoo. But with no bars[栅栏]. No small cages. No walls. Of course we’ll need something to draw people from miles around. A...emm...a main attraction. And this would be perfect， this， for serving teas to visitors...once we fix it up of course. What do you think？ The girls will get their own rooms， Lizzie. There’s fields to run around in. Clean air. It’s been good for me， you
know， helping these animals.
Lizzie： George...
George： No， and I don’t， I didn’t tell you because I knew you’d try and talk me out of it. But it’s up for auction[拍卖] in three days’ time and I’m told that it’s likely to go for less than it’s worth， so it’s an investment[投资] if anything.
Lucy： You’ve no money to buy it in the first place.
Albert： I’ll not sell the shop， son.
George： No， no， no， Dad， no， I don’t want you to. I want to be me own man， do this in my way. Well， we’re here now， we might as well take a look at the place.
（The family look around the house）
George： June would be happy here， and she’d learn a whole lot more with animals around her then， and…and space.
Lizzie： Mew would hate it. And besides， how would we ever afford it？
George： Well， I find that…that money is…is rather like a flock of migrating birds[候鸟]...
Lizzie： What’s our profit and loss？ Cash flow[现金流动]？ You need to give a bank a complete set of figures to stand even an outside chance of a loan. George： Then help me.
Lizzie： People like us don’t do things like this.
George： Lizzie， you’ve watched our neighbours， paying money that they can barely afford to look at things that they’ve never seen before. I think people need that escape， now more than ever. Lizzie： Then we need to make this about more than just figures. Find me a pen and paper before I change my mind. 露西：我们来这里干什么？
莉齐：不要乱碰东西，琼！

Around/About someone’s ears 意为“彻底破灭，成为泡影，落空”，表示因某件事失败而导致所有希望和计划都落空，一般搭配come crashing或fall。例如：

Fenchwood： What if it’s gone down in value by then？ I mean， the stock market[证券市场] is crashing[打碎的] around our ears.
George： Well， I don’t know anything about that.
Fenchwood： That’s what worries me. This is a lot of money you’re asking for. （looks at the monkey and people around it outside the office） I’m…I’m sorry but I can’t make a decision based on sentiment[感情].
George： Help me put a bit of beauty back into the world， Mr. Fenchwood. It’s a disgrace[耻辱] the way we treat animals. Either stick them in cages to be stared at or we flog[鞭打] them half to death working for us. Men like us， we’ve seen enough suffering， haven’t we？
Fenchwood： （looks at the monkey） Look...I can’t give you all of it. ￡3，000 is my limit. I’m going to regret this， I just know it.
George： Best investment you’ve ever made.

Mr. Pollard： What does a zoo make us but Blackpool without the pier[码头]？

And I saw good men pay the highest price， and this conflict[斗争]， it， um， it taught me the value of life. But not just human life...but the lives of all， all things， all living creatures， great and small.
Mr. Fowler： What were you called in trenches[战壕]？
Sergeant[中士] Do-little[无所事事的人]？
George： This zoo， it is...it’s an enormous[巨大的] undertaking[事业]. But it brings with it rich rewards. Not just for us...but for Upton and for the animals that we bring there. Be assured， every minute of every day is dedicated to[献身于] getting this project off the ground[落实]. Mr. Pollard： Get it off the ground and take it somewhere else. George： Oakfield will be different. It’ll be modern. It’ll be like nothing you’ve seen before. Like the zoos on the Continent[欧洲大陆]. A place where animals won’t be hidden in cages， they’ll be free to roam[漫步] as they would in the wild. Oakfield will be a zoo without bars.
Mrs. Radler： Zoos without bars？ What next， prisons without walls？ What if these lions go near the school？ I’ve got children！
Mrs. Pollard： Yeah， I’ve got three！
George： Then bring them， please！ Bring them！ Bring them to the zoo. Let them see it for themselves.
Mrs. Radler： They won’t be coming anywhere near！
Mr. Pollard： We don’t want your suburban[土气的] safari[野生动物园]. Not round here. Mr. Fowler： Aye[投赞成票]， go on， off with ya， sling your hook[逃走]. Get out of here.
（all the residents clap）

George： Look， seems like we haven’t gotten off to the best of starts， does it？ Look， I don’t know any of you， but you seem like nice enough people， you do. I’m sorry that our coming here has been so hard to take. And I’m sorry about the van， the inconvenience[不便]...Well， we’ll get it out of your way as soon as we can. But as for us， for me and my family， we’re staying. Now， you can say what you like， and you can write what you like， but we’re going nowhere. And nor’s the zoo.
Mr. Fowler： I’ve a lad up the farm who’ll fix your engine. Get it out the road.
George： Thank you.
Billy： Thanks.
George： Nah， Leave it， Billy. We’ll get it later. Come on.
Billy： We can’t. They’ll overheat[过热].
George： Billy， they’re heaters. They won’t overheat， not unless you plug them in.
Mrs. Radler： Wait！ What’s in the van？
George： What have you done now， Billy？ Are they dangerous？ Billy： I don’t think so.
George： （looks into the van） Right， we’ll walk ’em. （opens the van door） Come on， come on. What now， Billy？
（Billy takes out some fish to attract the penguins）
George： That’s it. Come on， that’s it. Come on. That’s it！
（the penguins slowly come out and follow George）
Mrs. Radler： Archie！ Archie， come back here now.
Mrs. Pollard： I’ll go keep an eye on him.
Mrs. Radler： Mrs. Pollard？
Billy： Come on. That’s it. Good boy. Good boy. That’s a good boy. Reverend： What a charming sight. Though I would say， for those of you opposed to[反对] the zoo， it might not be in your best interests to be seen actually visiting the place.
（all ignore Reverend）
George： Come on. Come on.

George： Someone. I mean， look at him， he’s beautiful.
