《献给爱米莉的玫瑰》是美国著名作家威廉.福克纳短篇小说中的代表力作。笔者试从以下两个视角探析该小说的主题及其深层涵义:第一,“夕阳西下”的结局——消极的南方旧贵族之命运悲剧;第二,趋于黄昏的美——爱米莉之爱情悲剧。文章同时也试图解剖小说标题的深意:这是作者为女主人公爱米莉——一个珍贵的“倒塌的南方没落贵族的纪念碑”、一个为捍卫爱情而毒杀负心人的女人而献上的心中的“玫瑰”——一曲充满深情的颂歌。
“The Rose for Emily” is a representative work of the famous American writer William Faulkner’s short story. The author tries to explore the theme and its deep meanings of the novel from the following two perspectives: first, the outcome of “the setting sun and the west” - the tragedy of the destiny of the negative southern aristocrat; secondly, the beauty of twilight Li’s love tragedy. The article also attempts to dissect the profound meaning of the novel title: this is the author of the heroine Emily - a precious “collapsed monument to the declining aristocracy of the South”, a heart to defend the woman who love and sacrifice offer heart “Rose” - an affectionate carol.
