Modern microwave systems in manufacturing and design require phase accuracy of up to 1 degree over signal channels up to hundreds to thousands of wavelengths. These signal paths are made up of many different components. Therefore, the phase characteristics of the various components and cascaded components must be considered. This article analyzes a typical network component whose purpose is to point out the features of phase shift. This article reviews phase measurement methods and discusses the applicability of various methods to various measurement problems. The first of these is about high-precision sweep phase measurements.
