赛珍珠把《水浒传》书名译为All.Men Are Brothers,对此国内学界历来褒贬不一。从比较文学变异研究的角度切入可以发现,跨异质文化之间文学的翻译往往是“创造性叛逆”行为。由于文化过滤与文学误读,以及译者主体性作用,翻译过程中容易产生文化信息的增添、遗失或歪曲。通过对“水浒”一词在中国文化中特殊涵义的考察,通过对《论语》名言“四海之内,皆兄弟也”思想意蕴的详尽分析,笔者认为赛珍珠把《水浒传》书名译为AllMen Are Brothers(即“四海之内,皆兄弟也”)是典型的“创造性叛逆”行为,是对中国文化与文学的误读。从对中华文化与《水浒传》精神主旨的传达来说,赛珍珠的翻译是不忠实、不恰切的。
Pearl Buck “The Water Margin” title translated All.Men Are Brothers, the domestic academic circles have always mixed reviews. From the perspective of the study of comparative literature variation, we can find that the translation of literature between heterogeneous cultures is often “creative treason”. Due to cultural filtration and misreading of literature, as well as the translator’s subjectivity, cultural information is easily added, lost or distorted in the process of translation. Through the investigation of the special meaning of “Water Margin” in Chinese culture, through the detailed analysis of the ideological meaning of “Analects of Confucius”, “within the four seas, all brothers”, I think Pearl Buck put “Outlaws of the Marsh” The book’s name translated AllMen Are Brothers (ie, “all within the four seas are brothers”) is a typical “creative treason” act, which is a misunderstanding of Chinese culture and literature. From the transmission of the Chinese culture and the spirit of “Outlaws of the Marsh”, Pearl Buck’s translation is unfaithful and inappropriate.
