国学是开放时代对传统文化的一种无奈的称谓,中国书法则是精通国学者的艺术。从历史上看,书法向来被当作读书人之余事。所谓余事者,业余之事也。书法本是一种书写活动,抄写诗文,传播文本,了无情趣。但书法一旦被传统文人作为读书之余的一种自娱、娱人的方式,文字便神奇地演化为一种艺术。对读书人来说,写字常见到人必为,日日必为,书法便成为文人必备的修养。在这个意义上讲,我们也可以反过来理解,读书是书法家的正业,是书法修养的前提修养,因而文人性便成为书法艺术的最大特征。所谓国学,便是传统的中国学术,涉及哲学、史学、考古学、文学、语言学、科学、社会学、政治经济学等等十余项。而一般传统文人所具体涉及的学问则主要指经、史、子、集四大部分,这部分以哲学、文学、史学为主,因而,通常意义的国学知识便是我们常说的文史知识。历史上,书法是学习与研究国学的工具,或者说是国学成果的载体。其工具性决定了书法本身的实用性,也决定了书法本身社会价值的边缘性。但
