In 1977, China, just experiencing the “Cultural Revolution” catastrophe, slipped to the brink of collapse. China, which lacks a barter trade, can only exchange foreign exchange for hard currency gold and blood transfusions for the national economy. However, its domestic gold reserves are in short supply. In July this year, Wang Zhen, then vice premier of the State Council, made the important proposal of “getting the troops to find gold” and was approved by the Central Government. The commander-in-chief who led the Tunchow Corps in Xinjiang during the War of Resistance against Japan was the leader of the 359th Brigade to reclaim the Nanniwan Bay. During the early years of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, his general confidence in the army continued. As a result, a gold headquarters under the infrastructural engineering corps was established and became the first army in the world to look for gold mines. After several revolutions, it has become the gold unit of the Chinese Armed Police today.
