马铃薯退化,在世界上是一个所谓“老大难”问题。我国有人根据马铃薯退化在各地的不同表现,认为:只有在高纬度、高海拔的冷凉地区种植马铃薯,才不会退化;即在低纬度、低海拔、高温、平川地区种植马铃薯,就必然要退化。我们郑州市就处于这个所谓必然要退化的地区。过去由于受这种认识的影响,不但未能大面积发展,就是小面积零星种植,也必须年年从外地引种。 1958年大跃进以来,特别是无产阶级文化大革命以来,我市广大贫下中农和科技人员,在毛主席无产阶级革命路线指引下,破除迷信,解放思想,经过“实践、认识、再实践、再认识”的过程,探索出了我地二季作(即一年种两季,秋播留种,过好秋关)和一套综合技术措施,找到了控制退化、实现就地留种的有效途径。产量一年比一年提高,种性有进一步改善的趋势。现在,我市不仅做到了种薯自给,而且还支援外地大量种薯,据1972和1973年不完全统计,两年共支援兄弟省、市种薯140余万斤,得到十多个省、市一些兄弟单位的好评。
