多友鼎以其长篇铭文和丰富的内容,成为研究西周历史的重要史料。笔者经考证认为,金文“广伐”一词为专用贬义词,并非指战争规模,而是专指外族或敌方对周的“侵犯”、“进犯”。作器者多友不是郑桓公友,他只是武公的部将,研究者对于金文人名与文献人物的比较研究存在较多乱象,笔者认为金文铸人名不可能用假借字,所以金文人名间的考证也不适用同音假借。多友鼎铭文分别记载战后周王对武公的赏赐以及武公对多友的赏赐,是西周严格等级制度的反映,也体现了西周赏赐制度的一些特征。至于多友鼎铭文所记京师、杨冢等的地望,有研究者根据新出尚父簋认为其地在山西新绛,笔者认为尚父簋的作器者不可能是杨侯长父,故其观点不能成立,且京师也不可能是指宗周镐京。多友鼎铭文所记京师和杨冢的地望,只能在陕西豳地。
