晋中专区基本肃清棉花红铃虫的成绩,是中国共产党领导广大人民战胜并消灭自然灾害的现实例证之一。此项工作是在1955年开始的,当时以汾阳县为重点,建立了彻底防治红铃虫示范区,全面推广种籽燻蒸、仓库喷药、帘架晒花等项防治措施。全县的500余万斤种籽普遍经过燻蒸以后,对减低红铃虫为害起到了一定作用,但仍不能彻底消灭为害,据1956年汾阳棉花试?站调查,青铃被害率虽大大降低,但仍有5.75％被害。
