On November 11, the Ministry of Agriculture released the “Thirteenth Five-year Plan” for the Protection and Utilization of National Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources. The current status and future goals of the conservation and utilization of poultry genetic resources in China are described in detail. As the most abundant animal genetic resource in the world, China has found 545 local breeds, accounting for about 1/6 of the world’s total amount of livestock and poultry genetic resources.
