Regulatory changes have allowed the development of high-solids epoxy / amino coatings to be faster. The trend towards neither detrimental to coating performance nor to the volatility of ultra-low organic compounds is inevitable. One of the viable options for railroad vehicle industry is the use of heated, solvent-free epoxy coatings. This article provides a basic overview of solvent-free coatings for industrial railroad vehicles to gain a better understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of these coatings and their application. The continuing development of low-viscosity resins, curing agents and modifiers by raw material suppliers will increase the rail vehicle industry’s potential for successful application of solvent-free epoxy coatings.
