Objective To investigate single-cell micro-gel electrophoresis (SCGE), commonly known as Comet test, to investigate DNA damage in peripheral blood lymphocytes of patients exposed to low-dose X-rays. Methods 32 cases of ray workers were selected as contact group and 33 non-contact persons as control group, and DNA damage of lymphocytes was detected by SCGE. Results The rate of DNA damage in the radiation group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P <0.01). The degree of DNA damage was significantly correlated with the working hours of workers. Conclusion Radiation workers long-term occupational low-dose irradiation can cause DNA damage in peripheral blood lymphocytes. The results show that the SCGE method is a sensitive, simple, rapid and effective method for the determination of occupational radiation workers routine health care
