According to the national needs of the re-understanding of the potential of oil and gas resources in the eastern part of China’s eastern region, the applicability and limitations of the commonly used methods of resource assessment, that of genesis, statistics and analogy, are analyzed. In view of the problems existing in the evaluation of resources both at home and abroad, the authors selected the Niuzhuang sub-basin of Niuzhuang Sag, a typical oil-gas basin in the continental oil-gas basins of eastern China, and calculated the amount of resources by the method of reservoir-forming combination statistics. This method first studies the provenance structure and distribution of petroleum geological reserves in the study area. Through the analysis of hydrocarbon migration direction and path, the relationship between hydrocarbon generation and reservoir formation is clarified. Combining with the features of structure, stratum, sedimentation and Temperature and pressure environment to determine the boundaries of the total oil and gas system. Then, on the basis of this, further divided into reservoir evaluation units, and calculated the amount of resources using the statistical method in the same reservoir evaluation unit. Compared with the previous methods of resource assessment, this method makes full use of the rich geological data of mature exploration area, that is, it avoids the selection of MMA with poor maneuverability, and makes up for the lack of statistical methods Meanwhile, this method can further indicate the difference of the remaining resources in each reservoir assemblage, which can provide the basis for the fine exploration of the old oil area.
