金刚石钻头胎体配方及其性能对于变化的地层的适应能力是有局限性的。适应能力好坏一般指钻头上的金刚石能否正常出刃。由于各种地层坚硬程度不一,特别是研磨性各不相同,所以不论那一种性能的胎体都不可能万能地适应各种地层。解决的途径是研制不同胎体成分,增加品种系列,以适应各种地层。低温电镀镍钴胎体钻头对于中硬和坚硬、摩擦性较大和摩擦性较小的地层有较好的适应能力。但是对于坚硬、摩擦性很大的地层,胎体消耗较快;对于坚硬、摩擦性很小的地层,则胎体消耗较慢;另外,这种胎体较软(HRC35左右),还存在钻压过大往往有使胎体变形的缺点。
