This is the morning of Munich, September 10, 1972. this day. It was the first time that the United States basketball team was defeated in the World Series, after they had maintained 63 straight wins and it was their cold war rivals, the Soviet Union. The drama can not be overstated, and the Americans are still stubbornly saying “the match giving Rus sia the gold medal” at the time of the game, or they can translate it into “the gold medal given to the Russians.” The match was over, the referee gave the Soviets twice extra time, and angry American coach Hans Iba looked lost on the record. 51 to 50, the myth of American basketball reluctantly accepted the moment of the burst.
