教育的宗旨与全球化趋势的冲击使得对不同文化传统中的数学教育进行比较研究成为必然.面对以中国、日本等为代表的东亚国家与西方发达国家之间在学生成绩与教学方法上的冲突,督促我们要进行超出课堂教学之外的深层研究,即从文化传统与教育传统的角度剖析.从而逐步开展对已有的传统方式进行反思,加深对数学教育的深层理解,并从彼此的成功和失败中学习与借鉴,以此确立需要改进的目标,促进数学教育健康、科学地发展.
