这四首诗是从收入各种诗选的阿特伍德作品里选译的,都是诗人七十,八十年代的作品。《赛壬之歌》(Siren Song)借用希腊神话的一个典故,拟设了对一个“千古之谜”的答案,从而刻画出一个蛇蝎般阴险的女子的形象,真可谓入木三分。《“睡”的变奏》(Variation on the Word SLEEP)写出了一个恋人对所爱者的一往情深,体贴对方,甘愿作出牺牲的柔情。《在皇家安大略博物馆的一夜》(A Night in the Royal Ontario Museum)反映了西方现代社会中,人在“物”的压迫,在历史的传统势力支配下的恐惧感与孤独感。《最初,我有几个世纪》(At First I Was Given Centuries)则从一个妇女的角度出发,控诉了破坏普通人的幸福的战争。以上四首诗可以帮助我们了解西方一部分人的思想感情,了解当代西方诗歌的一个侧面。——译者
The four poems are translated from the works of Atwood, which collected all kinds of poetry, and are all works by the poets in the 1970s and 1980s. Siren Song borrowed an allusion to Greek mythology to formulate an answer to an “eternal mystery”, portraying the image of a viperlike sinister woman as one-third. “Variation on the Word SLEEP” writes the tenderness of a lover who loves and cares for his beloved, willing to make sacrifices. The “A Night in the Royal Ontario Museum” reflects the oppression of people in Western modern society and the sense of fear and loneliness that are dominated by the traditional forces of history. At First I Was Given Centuries, from a women’s perspective, accused the war of destroying the well-being of ordinary people. The above four poems can help us understand the thoughts and emotions of some people in the West and understand one aspect of contemporary Western poetry. - translator
